Elton was given to us in 1999 when his previous owner moved to Scotland. We were not really interested in having another stallion, as at the time we had the late great Smiler of Sheepwash. However we were persuaded to go and just look at him, which we did, and when he trotted or rather floated towards us we went straight home and got the trailer!
Elton ran on the forest until he was 5 then was brought in to be broken to start his ridden career.
His achievements to date are really too numerous to mention and he has passed on his movement and his very laid back temperament to his progeny, who now all excel both in the show ring and at dressage. Those ponies include: Haywards Enigma, Haywards Fleurella, Vicarshill Jack The Lad, Picket Post Pickled Pete and Sway Mister Moon, to name but a few!
Elton has also achieved the NFPB&CS dressage grades 1, 2 & 3 and has been part of the NFPEC winning Rural Riders dressage team twice at the National Championships in Lincoln. In 2009 the team won again, although Elton wasn't on the team but two of his sons Haywards Enigma and Vicarshill Jack The Lad were! Elton and Jack The Lad now compete at National level in pairs dressage and came an amazing 4th overall at the Championships in 2009.
Elton's unique temperament and movement has also been passed on to his stallion sons: Haywards Guardsman, now at stud in Holland, and Sway Mister Moon.
Elton is available to a few select mares each season. Frozen semen is also available from the West Kingston Stud.
Haywards Impressionist Bay 2 year old Stallion By Long Copse Elton ex New Copse Red Cedar. Impressionist ran the forest as a yearling which qualified him for the Forest run colt class at the Breed Show which he went on to Win! "Imp" passed his NFPB&CS inspection in April 2010 and will be running with a few of our mares for 2010.
